Maintenance Mechanic
Denton, TX 
$20 an hour

Summary: Maintenance Mechanic A repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical/electrical equipment such as molding machines, production machines, and auxiliary equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Examines production machinery such as injection molders, grinders, conveyors, robots, glue machines and water jet units to determine the cause of operational issues using a systematic troubleshooting method.
  • Using prepared lockout/tag out procedures, dismantles devices as needed to gain access to and replace defective parts.
  • Examines machine components to detect defects along with the root cause of the failure; adjusts operational components and control instruments such as PLCs as needed maintaining original machine safety controls such as electrical interlocks.
  • Repairs or replaces defective parts; initiates purchase order through supervisor if required while maintaining the spare parts inventory.
  • When repairs are completed, monitors the restart of the repaired equipment to verify correct performance (using Lockout/tag out procedures)
  • Maintains electrical equipment as originally supplied by the vendor to meet regulatory codes at the country, state and federal levels.
  • Performs the installation of electrical equipment including disconnects, circuit breaker cabinets, conduit & wiring up to 480 volts and 600 amps utilizing correct NEC code compliant guidelines.
  • Performs hydraulic & electrical circuit diagnostic work as required utilizing hydraulic and electrical schematics and PLC Ladder Logic.
  • Maintains equipment and work area in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Performs required preventative maintenance duties according to prepared procedures, utilizing the PMC maintenance log.
  • Observes and obeys all company rules and regulations including the NFPA 70E Arc Flash PPE and procedures. Works safely and without injury.
  • Maintains prompt and regular attendance as scheduled.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma plus 2 years college and/or trade school
  • Minimum 4 years of related job experience, with emphasis on equipment maintenance and repair

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical code
  • Working knowledge of PLC programming and operation
  • Maintenance welding skills and mechanical knowledge
  • Good working knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics
  • Ability to use proficiently and safely hand and power shop tools
  • Ability to safety utilize a forklift and a high lift
  • Ability to safely perform work ladders, scaffolds, and roofs to install, maintain or repair electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures
  • Proficiency in testing electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and personal computers as needed for diagnostic work and to maintain the safety of the system.
  • Ability to read and interpret prints and schematics
  • Must possess and exercise good judgment and be able to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
  • Must possess awareness of and appropriate response to safety factors

Language Skills:

Ability to read, write, verbalize and comprehend instructions and correspondence in the English language. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Must have basic computer literacy.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Physical and Visual Activities:

Standing, walking, lifting, carrying, balancing, stooping, reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, acuity-far, acuity-near, depth perception and field of vision.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, and to use hands to finger, handle or move objects, tools or controls. Employee is frequently required to walk, climb, bend stoop, kneel, balance and reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move/push up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Environment/Atmospheric Conditions:

The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts, in tight and confined work areas around machinery. Ambient temperatures can be up to 110 degrees. Works in proximity to hot plastics. Hearing protection must be worn while working in certain areas of the plant
